St. Anselm Seventh-Grader Is Newest State Senator!

Brooklyn’s newest state senator is actually too young to vote. But she’s not going to let a little thing like that stop her.

Samantha Najjar, a seventh-grader at Saint Anselm Catholic School, is the big winner of the 14th Annual State Senator for a Day Essay Contest. Samantha’s essay was selected as the best out of 30 finalists at the competition, held May 18 at P.S. 204 in Bensonhurst. The finalists were chosen from among 2,000 students who submitted essays. The contest rules stipulate that the students write an essay of no more than 250 words in length that begins with phrase, “If I were a state senator for a day…”
